I’m in the midst of updating a presentation I did in September 2024 and decided to share it here as a multi-part slide series. Once that is is done, my plan is to record a voiceover to go with the full set of slides and share the final result here as a video.
Part One is a short introduction based on the theme of “Navigating Our AI Future” and sets out this underlying premise: As revolutionary as AI is, humans have an enduring body of knowledge of how to successfully approach new and unusual challenges.
We have long been adventurers and explorers. The hard won knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to thrive in earlier times of rapid change are still available to us. At root, this set of principles can be adapted to deal with nearly any situation that holds high potential risks and rewards.
Please share your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to hear your thoughts and to see if we can get an interesting discussion going!

I think SAILOR is a great way to look at AI adoption.
My most pressing concern about AI is how panicky many people are about it. Because I think that panic is a terrible state for solving actual problems and coming up with creative ways to use something safely and productively. I think if we all studied the history of the popularization of photography, we'd realize that people have said the same thing before... And the less we panic and the more we plan, the better off we'll be.
